Automated TIG welding: when speed meets precision

Our Martigny workshop shows how using automated TIG makes it possible to combine quality and speed of execution. Thoughts on an innovation that is transforming our working practices and raising our operational expertise.

Quality and speed are often seen as incompatible objectives, but our recent experience demonstrates that the two can perfectly well go hand in hand. What it takes is good preparation and the right technologies.

Precision and quality

The automated TIG process installed by HYDRO staff in our Martigny workshop has been showing just how efficient it is over the past few months. The technology has allowed us to weld valves and guide wheels to an exceptional level of precision and quality. One of the major advantages of this procedure is its ability to position items in a targeted manner, limiting machining to what is strictly necessary and reducing the risks of adjustment.

Improved treatment speed

A key feature of automated TIG welding is its improved treatment speed, boosting productivity and reducing the time spent working on components. Unlike manual methods, it gives exceptionally precise welds and reduces variations. Accurate application of energy is crucial to minimise deformations and ensure the structural integrity of welded components. The result is welds that are consistent, repeatable and highly reliable.

After several series of rigorous tests on various materials – low-alloy steel, stainless steel and nickel alloys – our staff are now qualified and the Welding Procedure Qualification Records have been approved for ongoing welding operations. This roll-out is part of our commitment to quality and in line with our certification to ISO 3834-2 – Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials.
